The post is for a 2-year, fixed term contract for a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) apprenticeship, starting in February 2025.
Salary paid as per Band 4 * Annexe 21, which is a percentage of the top of band 4 payYear 1: 70% approx. £20,379
Year 2: 75% approx. £21,835
You will be given the opportunity to develop your skills to your full potential whilst working towards a BTEC level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification, working with Stoke-on-Trent College. We are offering a rotational apprenticeship programme with placements across the County.During the two year programme you may rotate across two sectors, which would include a GP Practice and Community Pharmacy.
The Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Apprenticeship is a two year fixed term training post which will enable the student to train and study to apply to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC. There is an on-going requirement for the post holder to complete assignments, work to deadlines and work based competencies throughout the entire duration of the fixed term post.
The post holder will:
- Undertake a training program for Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Apprentices and successfully complete all assignments and educational tasks in a timely manner to satisfy the requirements of the award.
- Carry out pharmaceutical duties which will enable them to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Carry out pharmaceutical duties under the direct supervision of an appropriate qualified person (pharmacist and/or technician) in all necessary departments of the Pharmacy Directorate. (Some of the duties will be in the form of training exercises and/or competence based assessment in conjunction with qualification criteria.)
- Co-operate with all pharmacy staff in providing and developing a safe, efficient and comprehensive pharmaceutical service which is focused on the needs of patients/customers and the wider Trust. This will be in accordance with local standard operating procedures.
- The ICS is a partnership of NHS, council, voluntary and community organisations with a shared vision to make ‘Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent the healthiest place to live and work’.
The ICS will be led by an NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB), a statutory organisation with responsibility for NHS functions and budgets, and an Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), a statutory committee bringing together all system partners to produce a health and care strategy.
Together with two health and wellbeing boards, each ‘Place’ arrangement will plan and deliver services that meet the needs of local communities.
During your apprenticeship you will be employed by MPFT as the ‘host’ trust and managed by the ICS People Function Apprentice Team.
The Apprentice team will support you throughout your apprenticeship with the support of your placement and educational supervisors along with the team from the college. They will arrange your placements and help to ensure the resources you need are available to ensure your apprenticeship is enjoyable and fulfilling.

On completion of the apprenticeship, you can apply to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and continue your career in Pharmacy.
There is an expectation that you will be able to travel to your placements. You will be given one and a half days per week to complete college work, where you will be asked to either attend college or undertake independent study.
