Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse Band 5 - Full Time Vacancy.)
We are delighted to offer suitable applicants, an exciting opportunity to develop their career by undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) School Nursing Course. This is run as a joint programme between CNWL NHS Trust and either KCL or Brunel University.All university tuition fees are paid by the NHS.
Applicants must be Registered Nurses or Midwives with a current NMC registration and have an interest in addressing the health needs of children and families.

During the course your time will be split between practical training within our 0-19 teams and academic study.
Practice placements are offered in Hillingdonand Harrow.
The course commences in September 2025. Please ensure that you indicate if you have commenced the course previously in another university and the reason you did not complete. The course is run at Post Graduate Diploma - level 7, at both KCL and Brunel University.Detailed information about the course, including entry requirements can be found on the university websites or contacting them directly.
The post of StudentSNis a development post building on your existing knowledge,skillsandcompetencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Your timetable for the year will be provided by the university and will demonstrate all the relevant information needed to complete your course. It will also include your clinical days/periods so you can not only gain knowledge about School nursing in our services but which is enhanced by our clinical staff who will support you in gaining the experience and knowledge to enhance your clinical skills.You will also have details of all the required assessments for the year.
You will start off as supernumerary, observing your supervisor and other members of the team, but will gradually build up your skills in order to do the work which school nurses do independently. As a student school nurse, you will be involved in the Healthy Child Programme and this will be achieved through health promotion sessions and early intervention.These may be face-face or virtual but you will be supported throughout in order to gain the confidence needed to support children and young people. You will also gain knowledge and experience in safeguarding and child protection which is another important part of our role.
