Ryde School seeks to appoint a part-time Teacher of Art to work in the Prep and Senior Section of the School (KS2 to KS3) and to be fully involved with this flourishing the Department, both in the classroom and through co-curricular activities associated with the discipline.

This is a part-time post (0.4 - 0.5 FTE) that would suit an experienced practitioner eager to become part of a flourishing department in a busy school. Teaching from Years 3 to 9, successful candidates should have experience teaching Key Stage 2 art and ideally Key Stage 3 and above.

In order to support the pupils effectively, Art staff do need to be confident in a wide range of artistic skills and have the relevant competence and experience.

There is a designated Art Room within our Prep School where the majority of the Year 3-6 art lessons take place. The Senior School Art Department is located in a bright and vibrant open-plan purpose-built studio with an additional office in a modern award-winning building opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex in 2012.
Art is a very popular subject across all years and offered at GCSE, A Level and as an IB option at both standard and higher levels through both the IBDP and IBCP. In the Sixth Form, some pupils study for an Art BTEC as part of their vocational studies within the IBCP.

We also have many pupils who leave to attend prestigious Art Schools and Colleges at 18.

The department has a team of one full-time, and two part-time teachers providing a high quality of learning and teaching of Art throughout the School. The post holder will be creative and innovative in their approach and enjoy developing the subject.

They will work with the rest of the team to showcase pupil work at exhibitions both in and out of the School.

Encouraging pupils to develop confidence in their own creativity has been at the core of the Art department at the School, with pupils from Year 3 to the Upper Sixth developing their skills in a broad range of different materials and techniques.

Projects are rooted in core drawing skills which are then developed into personal responses allowing for a flexible and dynamic approach to teaching and learning.

Prep School pupils can attend weekly Art Clubs outside of lesson time to further their art skills. Senior School pupils have access to the studios outside lesson times at lunchtime and after school, to work on their portfolios or develop new skills supported by a variety of clubs.

This enables us to create a supportive and creatively conducive environment that allows our students to feel relaxed and uninhibited when exploring their own ideas.

The department currently follows the Edexcel specification at both GCSE and A Level, teaching Art and Design and Graphic Communication. The Department also offers a range of successful trips on older year groups to support both examination classes as well as younger students, visiting galleries on the Isle of Wight as well as traveling to London, Brighton and Paris.

This is an exciting time to join the Art Department.
