We are on an exciting journey of transformation and there are a number of roles within the Group Medical Directors Office that have recently been developed to support with the enhance and develop the Medical Leadership across UHN. Our Senior Medical Team will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare at UHN.

Main duties of the job

The post is designed to build on the existing operational links between the Corporate Medical, Operational, Nursing and Clinical Management teams; work alongside the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Director of Nursing; Associate Director of Nursing (UEC); Associate Medical Director (UEC), and the wider team to ensure active Corporate Medical

support and leadership for programmes to improve unplanned care pathways and productivity across our services both in and out of UHN.

The post holder will be a committed, high quality medical leader wishing join and complement our existing senior clinical and operational leadership teams. You will be expected to evidence a track record that demonstrates you have the skills to successfully deliver this role and to be able to articulate how you would plan to deliver the key priorities of the role.

You will be expected to have significant experience in Medical Management and be able to demonstrate dynamic and innovative leadership, working with complexity, and have experience of working across organisational boundaries at system level.

It will be essential that you are able to build effective relationships.

You will be expected to embody UHN’s values and be a visible role model in your leadership behaviours and actions.

Person specification

Education, Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration and holds a licence to practice
  • Consultant, appropriately experienced SAS doctors (working at Hospital Specialist or Associate Specialist level) or General Practitioner on the performers list
  • Member/Fellow of appropriate Royal College
  • Evidence of continuing professional & personal development as a clinical leader
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/management qualification or training e.g. NHS Leadership Academy programme

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in Medical Management with a demonstrable track record of successful clinical leadership in a complex healthcare organisation
  • Experience of medical job planning, appraisal, and clinical assessment
  • Experience of the management of complex projects
  • Evidence of working across organisational boundaries to deliver transformational change
  • Experience of working with patients and the public to enhance and develop patient pathways
  • Experience of effective collaborative working across professions, the healthcare system and external stakeholders

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to shape development across the health and social care system
  • Able to make decisions and take charge of events through a performance management approach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Has personal and professional credibility and commands the respect of fellow clinicians

In submitting an application form, you authorise Kettering General Hospital (KGH) NHS Foundation Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) process. Including factual reference, occupational health clearance and statutory and mandatory training record.

If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£49.50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £16.

New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £49.50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.

Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
