Marketing Manchester (MM) has an exciting new opportunity for a Tourism Analyst to deliver the destination’s tourism research programme, which provides an intelligence base to aid decision-making for the investment in, and the development of, Greater Manchester’s tourism industry.

MM promotes Greater Manchester nationally and internationally as a place to visit, invest, meet and study. MM is the city-region’s destination marketing organisation, which leads on the visitor economy as the Local Visitor Economy Partnership for Greater Manchester and incorporates the Manchester Convention Bureau and Sports Bidding Unit.

Key Responsibilities

To manage the monitoring of destination performance using methods such as STEAM, STR Global (hotel occupancy), business performance surveys and commissioning research, where appropriate.
To provide management information and advice on the current tourism data and intelligence available and provide guidance on the development of proposed research projects.
To provide technical and analytical input on tourism research projects, for example report preparation and recommendations, qualitative/quantitative analysis and interpretation, data collection, forecasting and international benchmarking.
To provide survey support to evaluation work undertaken by the tourism team eg. Service user evaluations, membership evaluations and tourism conference event evaluations.
To support the commissioning of primary research to external consultants to include managing the tender process, steering the direction of travel to meet project requirements and manage working relationships with external consultants.
To draft the reporting of tourism intelligence (for example presentations, research reports, briefings and papers) to ensure that key contacts receive relevant information in a professional and concise format.
To pro-actively use organisation-wide channels eg. stakeholder and members newsletter, and the corporate website, to communicate findings and reach required audiences.
To provide an information service to external customers, (Marketing Manchester stakeholders, Visit Manchester member businesses, hotel investors, real estate consultancies and internal staff from within the Growth Company, supplying up to date, relevant and accurate data that meets their needs.

This includes secondary research using the internet, online statistical services and partner research.

To maintain a balanced budget for the tourism research programme and fulfil appropriate transactional and administrative requirements.

About you

An accurate, detail-conscious, methodical approach to work.
Ability to develop productive internal and external relationships.
High-level numeracy and literacy skills.
IT skills, including use of word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, e-mail and the internet.
Ability to work independently and manage requirements of research projects.
Ability to develop good working relationships with external contacts and bodies.

Skills Required

Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
Demonstrable experience of the collection, analysis and use of data.
Knowledge of the tourism market and associated activities, and with relevance to the GM context.
Good understanding of tourism/economic statistics and measures.
