South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Band 6 Physiotherapist, 37.5 hours per week for 9 months maternity cover, within the Meadowgate Intermediate Care Centre based at Eston, Middlesbrough.

You would not be expected to work weekends currently but the team do cover bank holidays

The physiotherapist will work as part of the Integrated Community Therapy Service providing effective and efficient physiotherapy either within the Meadowgate Centre or community setting as appropriate. The 40- bedded centre provides a structured programme of therapy-led, supportive, and enabling care to individuals to assist and enable the person to achieve and maintain an optimum level of health and mobility.

The service aims to enable individuals to maximise their independence at home and to support timely discharge and prevent avoidable admission to hospital or long-term care.

The team is made up of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Therapy Assistant Practitioners. The service works Monday - Friday 8.30am-16.30pm including bank holidays however each therapist will only be expected to cover one or two bank holidays over the 12-month period.

The team don’t work Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Years Day and are currently not working weekends.

Successful candidate must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job
  • To be responsible for the delivery of Physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a high professional standard in accordance with Professional Standards and Code of Ethics laid down by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  • To be responsible and accountable for all aspects of professional activities, adhering to local policies and procedures.
  • To autonomously manage, within appropriate professional guidelines, a case load of clients with complex needs within bed based and community environments.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • To provide a high standard of physiotherapy to patients either within the Meadowgate Centre or community setting as appropriate within the patient’s agreed plan of care and as appropriate to competency levels.
  • To respond to identified needs through critical thinking, consideration of a range of options using sound clinical reasoning and professional judgement and communicating these to patients in order to reach a decision, in collaboration with the patient (or his/her representatives) about how to meet those needs

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To hold a degree or relevant diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Clinical educators training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate experience as a rotational junior in a broad range of clinical specialities
  • NHS experience
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team in the community
  • Knowledge and understanding of rehab and reablement
  • Experience of leadership and service development
  • Information technology literate
Desirable criteria
  • Previous community health and social care experience
  • Experience working in a reablement setting

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, communicating complex, sensitive and contentious information to patients, carers and colleagues
  • Skills in setting rehab goals
  • Demonstrate analytical skills and judgement when dealing with the physiotherapy management of complex patients
  • Demonstrate effective problem solving skills in complex situations

Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)
