Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Cardiologist (full-time, 10PA) with a specialist interest in Echocardiography (Stress Echo and TOE) and Valve Disease, with active participation in the local Infective Endocarditis MDT.Expertise in cardiovascular cross-sectional imaging, including CT coronary angiography and cardiac MRI, would be welcomed.
The successful applicant will play a key role in expanding Cardiology services across the Trust and will join a team of 11 Consultant Cardiologists at Aintree Hospital, delivering comprehensive cardiac care to patients across the Trust.
Aintree Hospital serves a catchment area of approximately 330,000 to 350,000 people, covering North Liverpool, Sefton Borough, and parts of Knowsley, including Kirkby. The hospital is part of Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working closely with other hospitals in Liverpool and the surrounding areas to provide specialist care and shared services.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council, hold a licence to practice, and have membership of the Royal College of Physicians UK (or equivalent). They should be listed on the Specialist Register for Cardiology or be eligible for registration within six months of the appointment date.
Main duties of the job
The appointee, together with their colleagues at the Aintree site will have a commitment to the provision of cardiology services. The appointee is responsible for the continued development and expansion of their sub speciality interest and will be expected to work closely with the rest of the Consultants.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivery several aspects within the Cardiology Service. Sessions will be available to support stress echo cardiography/TOE and conventional coronary angiograph with an interest in Valve Disease.

On Call commitments
The current rota runs at 1 in 11 for ACCU with out of hours cover on a weekly basis (6 weeks a year). At the weekend, the Consultant will carry out the ACCU (one ward round) and post-take ward rounds on ward 8. The total number of patients seen daily and at the weekends can be variable (14- 22 patients).
On call weeks (6 weeks/year), also includes 1 PA as SPA
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- MRCP or equivalent
- Full registration with GMC
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via
- CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months)
- CESR or - European Community Rights
- Signed off for sub speciality interest
- Higher research degree or in the process of obtaining a higher research degree
Experience
Essential criteria- Wide experience in elective and emergency Cardiology in the UK up to the standard expected of CCT.
- Evidence of practice at consultant or sub-consultant, senior SpR level for a reasonable period of time.
- Expertise in sub speciality field
- Previous Fellowships or extended training
- Teaching experience
- Relevant experience in NHS organisation and undertaking audit
