We are looking to recruit enthusiastic Health Care Assistants with a positive attitude and compassion to join the Complex Care Team to support children and young people with complex medical needs in their own homes and education settings.

You should be able to demonstrate a willingness and commitment to team working and have good communication skills. Level 3 NVQ in health and social care is essential.

Successful applicants will complete a competency-based training programme and will have the opportunity to complete the Care Certificate developed by Skills for Care, skills for health and Health Education England, which will equip them with the fundamental skills needed to provide quality care.

We have several positions available which will involve shift work including days, nights and weekends. Our office is based in Congleton but the care packages are based within East Cheshire so the ability to travel is essential part of this role, please demonstrate on your application form how you would meet this requirement.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for the holistic care of a children and young adults with complex health care needs and/or technology dependence in the Clients own home. Following a period of competency based training and supervision; HCA’s will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care following client care plans and East Cheshire Trust policy, procedures and guidelines.

The post- holder will be working in conjunction with the family, other carers, health care professionals’ and teachers to ensure a holistic approach to the child / young person’s care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education or ability to demonstrate equivalent.
  • Good literacy skills
  • Care Certificate (or commitment to undertake on commencement of the post)
  • NVQ level 3/ City and Guilds – Health/social care related subject (level 3) – or equivalent experience.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge, skills or experience in health/social care
  • Shows insight into the needs and circumstances of patient group.
  • Ability to recognise limitations of the role.
  • Understand the concept of self-care and self-management principles
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures, observations and care.
  • Ensures that own actions support equality, diversity, rights and maintain quality.
  • Ability to follow direction during a period of supervision and training.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people and dealing with members of the public
  • Self- motivated and enthusiasm for the role with the ability to work on own initiative whilst recognising own limitations.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Team player
Desirable criteria
  • Previous community / social / childcare experience.
  • Experience of working with complex care clients.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Previous experience delivering care in a community setting.
