Job overview

To maintain hospital clinical area stock items to agreed levels, following a schedule of count, delivery, shelf replenishment and correct stock rotation.

Main duties of the job

Count, deliver and put away ward and department stock (including NHS Supply Chain items and non-stock items).

Follow materials management policies and procedures, including calculating and agreeing stock levels with ward managers.

Follow the materials management monitoring procedure.

Respond to enquiries in an efficient manner, overcoming barriers to understanding through well-rounded interpersonal and communication skills.

Carry out non-stock materials management where necessary.

Customer service activities such as progress chasing and task related problem solving.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The position involves using various IT systems utilising both desktop and handheld devices.

The post covers a wide range of duties requiring accuracy and efficiency.

These duties include receiving goods, stock rotation and replenishment, cycle counting, internal distribution and supporting the migration to a full Inventory Management system within the organisation.

The post holder will work closely with the wider Supply Chain team but will also be required to work independently and unsupervised on occasion.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of stores management or CIPS qualifications or courses attended.
  • Good standard of General Education
  • Good IT and keyboard Skills.
  • Computer literate.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS.
  • An understanding of Trusts Standing Financial Instructions and Procurement procedures.
  • Ability to travel between sites.
  • To be willing to work towards CILT qualification.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A working knowledge of basic office and business practices.
  • Knowledge of basic Supply Chain management.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a stock control environment.
  • Knowledge of goods & services used within NHS.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous demonstrable experience of customer service.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of using Microsoft office software such as Excel and Word
