Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Orthoptist wishing to cover bank shifts throughout the week at Sherwood Forest Hospitals. This flexible position allows for shifts that are usually agreed 6 weeks ahead for planned cover as well as short notice availability to cover staff sickness.

As a Senior Orthoptist, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality care and support to our patients. The primary location for this role is at King's Mill Hospital where you will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment that values your expertise and skills.

This role may also involve travel to Newark Hospital and Ashfield Health Village, offering you the opportunity to expand your scope of practice and contribute to patient care in various settings. You will be responsible for assessing and treating a range of orthoptic conditions, managing complex cases and providing a high standard of patient care across different departments.

This position provides a unique opportunity to gain experience across multiple settings, enhancing your clinical skills and expertise. You will be supported by a collaborative and friendly team, ensuring that your professional development is a key focus while delivering exceptional care.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Core Orthoptics
  • To demonstrate and interest in ophthalmology and neurology
  • Good Organisational and planning skills and well developed interpersonal and communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • IT skills including knowledge of hospital systems

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To Possess Batchelor of Science in Orthoptics BSc(Orth), BmedSci (Orth) and/or Diploma from the British Orthoptic Council (DBO) or equivalent qualification
  • To be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria
  • Has attended the BIOS Clinical tutors Course of equivalent teaching certificate

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Willing to keep up to date with current literature and keep evidence of CPD activities
Desirable criteria
  • Low Vision Therapy course
  • Biometry training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in all aspects of clinical Orthoptics
Desirable criteria
  • Experience undertaking and presenting clinical audit
  • Experience working with stroke patients
  • Experience of delivering student supervision and clinical education to Orthoptic undergraduates

Contractual Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Provide Orthoptic services at Kings Mill Hospital
Desirable criteria
  • Able to travel to and cover single handed clinics at Newark Hospital
