Job overview

To be part of the team that provides the catering service to the external retail outlet on site serving drinks, snacks and composite meals. To provide a hands-on contribution in the catering department for maintaining the hygienic standards of food and beverage production and the logging of food and fridge temperatures.

Undertake the cleaning of all kitchen areas and involvement in supporting the patient food service upon request from the management team.

An exciting part-time vacancy has arisen for an outgoing, energetic person to join our Retail Catering team.

Our department has been chosen as an ‘exemplar site’ for NHS catering, following the recommendations of a national Independent Review into NHS Hospital Food . It was one of the first 14 sites across England (and the only site in Greater Manchester) in 2021 to be chosen for the honour.

The exemplar sites have been described as brave, courageous, and innovative and the title is a testament to the team and the wonderful work that takes place here.

Our retail offering consists of 5 busy catering outlets across the site - proudly serving 'barista-made' Costa Coffee in 3 outlets, as well as a shop and recently refurbished Restaurant.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primarily assisting in the service of food items in an external catering outlet but also including other Costa outlets serving beverages and food as directed by the management team.
  • To be able to dismantle and reassemble equipment being cleaned
  • Carrying out cleaning duties in accordance with Departmental Specifications and Cleaning Policy
  • Disposing of food waste and refuse safely and hygienically
  • Assist in the cleaning of all containers, crockery, and cutlery used in the service to Staff, and Visitors
  • To operate a till and re-stock areas
  • To log food and fridge temperatures in line with departmental policy.
  • Using the uniforms provided and meeting the required standards of dress, including the displaying of name badge

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main duties of the role involve:

  • Communicating effectively with the wider team
  • The operation and clean down of a commercial dishwasher including temperature monitoring
  • Lifting large and often heavy kitchen items using appropriate manual handling techniques
  • Knowledge of recipes, allergens, COSHH and food hygiene
  • General cleaning duties
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Carrying out any tasks required to maintain the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the area
  • Disposing of food waste and refuse safely and hygienically
  • Supporting new or less experienced work colleagues to adapt in the workplace

Previous experience and training would be preferred, however this is certainly not essential to the right candidate, as full training would be provided. Manual dexterity is a must, as we are a fast paced and ever changing environment.

A full staff uniform is provided.

If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £26.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
