Your Role

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can support schools, families and children with specialist educational needs? The Education Welfare Service is seeking an enthusiastic, professional and skilled individual to support the local authority’s statutory duties relating to school attendance and education access.

This role is a temporary secondment due to a temporary promotion within the team

You will provide advice, support and guidance to families, schools and other Council services about school attendance and education access. This role supports the communication and advice to Specialist Provisions in the Stockport Area, by completing the termly attendance meetings.

As well as, completing case work for children within the EHC needs assessment or has an EHCP within mainstream settings and is struggling to attend school. Applicants should note that Education Welfare Officers are expected to work across or support other areas of the service’s duties where needed, providing a great opportunity for the successful applicant to gain experience and develop skills/knowledge across a range of areas.

About You

We are looking for someone with a ‘can do’ approach and significant experience of engaging with and providing support and advice to young people and their families, with particular skills in negotiating and advocating on behalf of others. The successful applicant will also have experience of multi-agency and partnership working, ideally within a school, education or local authority setting.

Applicants should have excellent administration and communication skills, both verbal and written, and have experience of managing sensitive and challenging conversations and situations. They must be able to demonstrate resilience and the ability to work flexibly, prioritise workload, meet deadlines and problem-solve in a reactive working environment.

About Us

You will join a proactive, friendly and supportive team within the Education Welfare Service, working alongside colleagues dealing with attendance, elective home education, education provision for children unable to attend school due to health needs, and children missing education.

As part of Stockport Family, we are committed to providing high quality services to children, young people and their families. We provide an excellent working environment where you will feel valued and supported, and will offer excellent training and professional development opportunities.
