The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) are looking for a Band 3 Research Support Officerto join the Lifestyle and Health Research Group at theLeicester Diabetes CentreandNIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).

The Leicester Diabetes Centre,based at Leicester General Hospital, is committed to growinginternational research, education and innovation, and is one of the largest facilities in Europe for conducting first class clinical research in diabetes, obesity and lifestyle.

TheLeicester BRCis aprestigious research award(one of only 20 BRCs in the country), which in partnership with the University of Leicester supports clinical research within 6 core themes, includinglifestyle medicine(“the Lifestyle Theme”).

The BRC Lifestyle Theme hosts an array ofbespoke clinical research facilities, including astate-of-the-art lifestyle laboratory, and an expert team ofdietitians,nutritionists,exercise physiologists,research techniciansand other supporting staff.

These facilities allow the extensivemeasurement of lifestyle behavioursand otherwhole-body health assessments, and thedelivery of complex lifestyle programmesto improve the health of our local communities.

The Leicester Diabetes Centre also hosts theNIHR Patient Recruitment Centre - Leicester(one of 5 PRC sites across the UK), which supports commercial research across diverse clinical specialties including diabetes and obesity.

The post-holder will be responsible for supporting research studies and other projects fromset up through to the completion. This will include supporting with therecruitment and retentionof study participants, undertaking researchstudy assessmentsas appropriate (with training), supportingdata input and quality checking, and supportingdelivery of certain study interventions(with training).

They will play a key role in ensuring thefacilities and equipmentrequired to run these activities are available and in good working order.

Whilst based at Leicester General Hospital, travel between UHL sites, other partner/collaborative institutions, and the local community may be required from time to time.

Up to full time hours are available, but part time and job share arrangements will be considered.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic individual, who has the desire and ability to work with a multidisciplinary team (of academics, clinical support staff, managers, administrators and students) to deliver world leading research studies to help prevent and manage long term conditions through promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours (including diet, nutrition, physical activity, exercise and sleep).

Alongside this, they will provide wider research support to the group and department, including purchasing and monitoring stocks of equipment and consumables, organising research spaces/study visits, and facilitating visits/meetings with internal and external colleagues and visitors.
