This is a great opportunity for trainees who are interested to develop and pursue a subspecialty interest in vitreoretinal (VR) Surgery. This VR fellowship is designed to be a first step towards a more comprehensive VR fellowship, it aims to support the clinical and surgical knowledge and skills development of the post holder in order to progress to be able to function with a high level of autonomy both clinically and surgically at a high standard of care.

The successful candidate will benefit from a balanced weekly rota of four VR clinical and three VR surgical sessions, one emergency eye clinic, one teaching session, and one admin session. The fellowship offers broad medical and surgical retina and cataract surgery experience and exposure to complexity with regular hands on experience and one to one teaching and supervision both clinically and surgically.

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards, in the management of Ophthalmic and VR patients with awareness of limitation and the need for advice when appropriate.

Ensure full and professional documentation of all clinical and surgical episodes and of all types of discussion or correspondence about any specific patient.

To participate in the emergency eye clinic rota and general Ophthalmology on call and to share with colleagues, the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Ophthalmology Department and to help covering gaps in the rota, especially in emergency situations.

Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including timely attendance of all VR clinical, theatre and admin sessions.

Attending the pre-operative ward round, getting the patients ready for theatre, and ensuring smooth running of the VR theatre.

Seeing and managing the VR post-op patients and communicating any related issues with Mr Murjaneh.

Ensure smooth running of the VR clinics.

Ensure the related VR admin work is done appropriately, regularly with discussion with Mr Murjaneh or completion of any related communication swiftly.
