The Neonatal Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford is one of the largest in the country, and provides specialist level 3 medical and surgical ICU care for babies across the Thames Valley Neonatal Network.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who will strengthen, promote and deliver training and education to ensure that patients receive a high standard of care.

Main duties of the job
The Neonatal Unit Practice Development and Education Lead (PDEL) will provide a pivotal role in ensuring alignment of directorate, divisional and corporate (Trust-wide) practice development, education and training activities for non-medical staff.
The post holder is required to support informed investment of educational resources in meeting service needs and priorities that benefits patients and staff.
In addition, the post holder will lead in the identification of education and training needs of staff and plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members of non-medical staff (Band 1-8) within their directorate in the Division.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The PDEL will work collegiately to ensure standards are established, implemented and sustained, particularly those related to staff knowledge, skills development, service improvement and patient safety.
The post‑holder will demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills commensurate with a clinical expert and effective leader and manager; serve as a credible role-model; an agent of change and a facilitator of work-based learning.
The post holder will work minimum of 20% of their time clinically (not in the standard staffing numbers) working with students, new starters and existing staff especially those who are doing post graduate studies and research.
The PDEL will work maximum of 80% of their time leading and managing the Nursing Education Team in their directorate: reviewing and developing education activities; leading in‑house courses (both accredited and non-accredited); attending meetings relating to practice development and education activities/programmes.
In conjunction with other CPE (Clinical Practice Educators), Managers, Matrons, Directorate and Divisional Leads for Practice Development and Education, the PDEL will participate and contribute to the annual review and development of the strategic education plan for non-medical staff.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- First degree in Nursing (Adult or Children’s) Neonatal Qualified in Speciality Qualification (or its equivalent)
- Neonatal Qualified in Speciality Qualification (or its equivalent)
- Qualified practice supervisor/Practice assessor (or its equivalent)
- PG Cert in Teaching in Higher Professional Education (or its equivalent)
- Working towards Master’s degree relevant to Practice Development and Education
- Coaching Qualification
- Clinical Supervision Facilitator
Experience
Essential criteria- Significant experience in clinical practice in Neonatal Nursing (minimum of 4 years including 1 year as CPE)
- Proven ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Change management experience related to the planning and delivery of educational activities both in classroom and clinical settings
- Training and/or experience in risk management sufficient to understand potential risks and solutions from an education perspective
- Understanding of the local , regional and national commissioning environment and standards expected by commissioners
