To make this happen, we are looking for a curious, creative and motivated Senior Test Engineer to lead feature-driven testing of complex web-based applications that transform railway operations. We will be looking for you to be hands on in contributing to and helping shape our progression with testing in an agile development environment, implementing test automation and other new and emerging QA practices.

Requirements

What are the key objectives?

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will be responsible for driving quality assurance initiatives by taking a hands-on approach to testing while leading a dedicated product stream, ensuring both technical and strategic direction are maintained throughout the Development lifecycle.

  • Deliver world-class software products as part of an agile team
  • Be a part of a high performing development team ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products
  • Advocate for build quality and test automation throughout the development lifecycle, influencing others to do the same
  • Work alongside the project manager and technical lead, advising on approach and feasibility of solutions
  • Work closely with the Head of Assurance to manage overall team quality, test coverage and process effectiveness, and ensure resources are effectively allocated to meet project goals
  • Develop and implement comprehensive functional and non-functional test plans that outline the testing strategy, schedule and deliverables
  • Provide clear test execution reporting
  • Identify potential risks in the testing process and develop mitigations
  • Promote continuous improvement in our testing and quality assurance processes
  • Be flexible to take the lead when needed, but happy to apply your own testing skills to do hands on work when required, leading by positive example
Technical Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of agile methodologies, software testing principles and industry-standard ALM tooling (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub)
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java and/or JavaScript), for writing and maintain test scripts, and able to adopt new languages quickly
  • Understanding of test automation tools and frameworks (e.g. Selenium, Cucumber, Cypress, JUnit)
  • Experience with test management tools, such as Azure DevOps
  • Experience of working with complex systems with large datasets in complex operational environments
  • Willingness and ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Tester or Test Lead
  • ISEB or ISTQB certified

This role could be based in Derby, Milton Keynes, or London. We have a flexible, hybrid approach to work and work location - so please talk to us about your preferences and how these could work for both you and the team. We do require everyone to be in one of our offices at least once a week.
