Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse – Emergency Department

Calling all experienced Emergency Department Nursing Staff.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our experienced nursing team.

After a recent staffing review we are pleased to announce we are expanding our workforce.

Are you a dynamic and motivated emergency nurse, with a minimum of 2 years Emergency Department experience? Do you have evidence of continuing professional development within Emergency Department nursing? The Emergency Department covers a catchment area of approximately 500,000 people and last year had approximately 90,000 attendances. We are continuously striving to provide high quality patient care and believe in the fact that all patients should receive the right care by the right person the first time.

Main duties of the job

To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant

professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for: The assessment of care and health education needs; The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care

including discharge planning for each patient.

To be designated to manage the ward/department and/or act as a deputy to the
person holding continuing responsibility.

To be familiar with the Hospital Major Incident Plan and have a knowledge of the role of the Senior Nurse until relieved by a Senior Nurse. To also have knowledge of the role of the Senior Staff Nurse during a Major Incident.

To develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the

ward/department.

To promote and participate in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy:
  1. Reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes

based on research/best practice; b) Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management

initiatives.
To participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate, and to teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to nursing or non-nursing staff.
To manage the department on a shift basis, in the absence of a senior nurse, maintaining a proactive approach to Trust and local targets.

To promote and maintain effective communication.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 2 years relevant clinical experience at Band 5
  • Experience of taking charge and delegating duties

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Part 1,2,12
  • State Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
  • Emergency Care qualification or equivalent evidenced experience
  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
  • Teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Post-registration training preferably in speciality area – APLS, ALS, TNCC/ATLS preferable
  • Any training in management / HR
  • Diploma/ Degree in relevant area
