Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Pay & Employee Services Officer to join its busy Pay and Employee services team.
The Pay and Employee Services team provides a full range of payroll and pensions related services to both the Trust and to a number of other NHS Organisations. As well as providing services in respect of Employee Benefits and workforce systems including eRostering, ESR and eExpenses.
You will work as part of a busy team delivering a Payroll service to over 40,000 employees and will be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills to ensure effective service delivery.
Main duties of the job
You will manage and lead a team of Pay and Employee Services Officers ensuring workloads are managed accordingly, payroll deadlines are achieved and all information has been appropriately audit checked to ensure the accuracy of payments being made to employees.Overseeing the full end to end Payroll and HR transactional process for a section of the Payroll within the Trust and/or its external clients.
You will also act as the point of contact for both clients and employees to provide technical advice, information and support on highly complex pay issues, terms and conditions and statutory regulations. Excellent communication skills are required to ensure a high standard of customer service is delivered.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of working within a busy Payroll and Pensions department and ideally have worked within the NHS and have a good understanding of ESR, NHS Terms and Conditions and Statutory regulations.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- CIPP Advanced Payroll Technician Certificate or equivalent Level 4 qualification
- 2 A-Levels or equivalent qualification
- 5 GCSE’s (including Maths and English) at Grade A to C or equivalent qualification
- European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or relevant MS office training
- CIPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management
Experience
Essential criteria- Extensive experience working in a specialised integrated HR/Payroll/Pensions department
- Knowledge and experience of HMRC regulations in respect of payroll and pensions regulations
- Sound understanding of the Data Protection Act.
- Knowledge of NHS National Terms and Conditions of service
- Knowledge and understanding of the NHS pension scheme
- Experience of leading and managing a team
- Experience of working with the national NHS Payroll system ESR (Electronic Staff Record)
- Knowledge of differing local and national pay terms and conditions applicable to NHS
- Experience of ESR Connect software
- Knowledge and understanding of NHS pension scheme
