The Caledonian Sleeper team are looking for a Revenue Data Analyst to join their Finance and Revenue team.This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated analyst to join the Caledonian Sleeper Retail and Pricing team. The Revenue Data Analyst is a new role which will support the Head of Retail and Pricing, dealing with all aspects of the organisation’s revenue generation processes from maintenance of back end systems that support selling to the guest, post sale and travel analysis.
The role enables greater insight to optimise revenues and continually improve our guest experience to meet and exceed their expectations.
In June 2023, the business transferred into Scottish public sector ownership and this has allowed the opportunity to build and expand in-house analytics and automation. This role is to support this area of expertise, allowing the business to maximise the potential of improved analytics for decision making purposes, whilst also being responsible for managing the operational mechanics of the organisation’s revenue systems.
The role will report to the Head of Retail and Pricing and work closely with team members including the recently appointed Business Intelligence Lead and other colleagues in the broader Caledonian Sleeper business.
Main Accountabilities:
- Maintenance of schedule and formation changes in RARS (the Rail Industry Reservation system) so that these reflect the current timetable and planned service formation to ensure that the reservation inventory reflects both the timetable and formation of the train that will operate.
- Ensuring the latest Engineering Works position is reflected in RARS and matches that in the industry data.
- When engineering work has been processed in the reservations system identify Guests who are impacted by these changes and advise the Guest Services team.
- Work with the Head of Retail and Pricing and the Business Intelligence Lead to develop improved reporting capability for historic and forecast revenues, sales and occupancy data.
- Monitor in house reporting to investigate booking anomalies and ensure these are reported and rectified.
- Ad hoc analytical and testing tasks as required by the Head of Retail and Pricing and Business Intelligence Lead.
- Monitoring of Revenue Optimisation software to ensure that Revenue is being maximised.
- Ensuring reports from external systems for example website back office are generated for loading into the CSL data warehouse.
- Ensuring Transport Focus receive customer data to enable distribution of post trip surveys.
- Extraction of data from central Rail Industry systems into the Caledonian Sleeper Data Warehouse for example Tableau sales data and reservation data
- Assist the Business Intelligence Lead in further automation of data flows, developing the reporting suite to enhance insights.
- Investigation and recording of Credit Card chargebacks.

- You will be confident working with Excel, PowerBI and other Microsoft Office packages and will have a strong attention to detail.
- An understanding or willingness to learn SQL.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate/interpret complex data and evaluate information objectively and accurately.
- An understanding or willingness to learn the dynamic revenue management principles in a transport environment.
- Willingness to learn Rail Industry specific systems provided by Rail Delivery Group, principally Rail Availability and Reservations System and Tableau.
- A flexible team player with a high level of own initiative.
- Capable of working on own projects and take responsibility of own workload.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a varied workload.
- Good organisational skills to ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Flexible and growth mindset, capable of embracing change.

- Assisting with Freedom of Information and GDPR requests
- Educated to degree level
- Further relevant qualifications or CPD in a relevant area.
Candidates must be willing and able to travel on occasion where appropriate, most likely between the Inverness and Glasgow offices.
