An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 Pre-Release Probation Service Officers to join Greater Manchester Probation Service’s Public Protection Team, working at HMP Forest Bank. These roles will support the Offender Management in Custody (OMiC) model and Pre-Release teams for both unconvicted and sentenced people in prison. The role requires travel to Probation Delivery Units and at times the 3 other Greater Manchester prisons and entails the following:

  • Completion of Basic Custody Screening Assessments to identify the immediate resettlement needs of people in prison.
  • Attendance and completion of pre-release plans and referrals made by Resettlement Boards in the prison establishments.
  • Ongoing communication and support with Community Probation Practitioners to complete relevant referrals for cases being released from any prison establishment.
  • Attendance at the link Probation Delivery Unit weekly to support with Pre-Release Resettlement Planning and an ongoing interface remotely.
  • To use computer-based systems to produce, update and maintain records and other documentation.
  • Effective communication with staff and partner agencies.
  • To provide cover in teams where required.

At interview stage candidates will take part in an assessment centre, with both interview questions and a presentation required.

Overview of the job

The job holder will undertake the full range of work with offenders before and after sentence. This will include assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. The job holder will provide case management support to a full range of offenders utilising service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement.

Summary

To assess and manage the risk (including risk management plans and escalation) posed by offenders to protect victims of crime and the general public by:

  • Liaising, providing information and advice to criminal courts, criminal justice agencies and other partner agencies
  • Supervise and manage risk of those offenders subject to community sentences, during and after custodial sentences.
  • Work with other agencies and groups to prevent crime and meet the needs of victims and offenders.
