Main duties of the job
  • To work autonomously as a specialist craftsperson in area of expertise, planning and responding to Planned Preventive Maintenance and emergency calls.
  • The post requires frequent concentration to diagnose faults and the adaptability to respond to frequent interruptions and deal with unplanned maintenance issues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To take responsibility for diagnostic fault finding, problem solving and repair and maintenance of primarily mechanical equipment including but not limited to LTHW boilers, Air Handling Units, Domestic water services and heating systems
  • To undertake servicing and installation of this equipment and systems within the Trust and in other properties maintained by the Maintenance Department as directed.
  • Partake in the installation of services through small or capital works
programmes
  • To set out new work or set up new production appropriate to his/her original trade using relevant instruments and machinery without supervision.
  • Partake in the mechanical on-call rota
  • Maintain equipment as part of a PPM regime

Person specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A proven background within Maintenance or similar industries.
  • Experience / knowledge in the use of hand tools
  • Experience / knowledge of mechanical, electrical and building maintenance
  • Experience of using computer programmes
  • Understanding of COSHH regulations
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in working within the Healthcare environment
  • Understanding of Asbestos regulations
  • Experience of driving Transit Van sized vehicle towing a trailer.

Qualification and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • City & Guilds Level 3 in Plumbing, Mechanical Fitting or Mechanical Maintenance/Installation equivalent apprenticeship or approved training
  • Additional recognised multi-skilled training course or HNC/HND combining both elements.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant certification
  • Basic Computer qualification
  • CP Training Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to concentrate where the work pattern can be unpredictable
  • Ability to work close to very ill/terminally ill patients
  • In-Depth knowledge of a wide range of mechanical systems including but not limited to 2 & 3 port heating systems, buffer vessell, PHEX & AHU
Desirable criteria
  • Basic knowledge of a wide range of electrical systems including but not limited to LV/HV, generators, BMS & final circuits

Essential criteria
  • Willing to undertake any duties allocated.
Desirable criteria
  • Reliable.
  • Good communication skills – able to communicate with ward & department staff and visitors
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
