ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby Preparatory School is an independent boys’ preparatory school (ages 7 – 13) of 350 boys set in the dynamic area of Marylebone in London. Wetherby prepares its pupils for many of the top day and boarding senior schools in the country and therefore works at a level significantly above National Curriculum expectations.

Wetherby Prep are now looking for a Assistant Head (Pastoral and DSL) to join them from September 2025, on a 12 month FTC (maternity cover).

You are a visible and proactive presence in the school, supporting both pupils, parents and staff, and play a key role in all areas of school life.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead safeguarding across the school, ensuring full compliance with statutory duties (e.g., KCSIE).
• Manage safeguarding referrals, liaising with external agencies as necessary.
• Maintain accurate safeguarding records and ensure confidential and secure data management.
• Lead and develop the safeguarding team, providing training, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
• Conduct safeguarding audits in partnership with Inspired and the Global DPO, ensuring policies and procedures are current and effective.
• Oversee the pastoral care system, ensuring high standards of pupil wellbeing and personal development.
• Work closely with Form Tutors, Heads of Year, and the Learning Enrichment team to ensure joined-up pastoral support.
• Play an active role in admissions events, including school tours and open days, highlighting the school’s pastoral strengths.
• Contribute to the overall leadership of the school as a member of the Senior Management Team.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• University degree and/or recognised teaching qualification.
• Level 3 (or higher) DSL safeguarding training (essential).
• Strong experience in pastoral leadership and safeguarding within a school setting.
• Expert understanding of safeguarding legislation and pastoral care frameworks.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Highly visible and approachable within the school community.
• Warm, empathetic, and solutions-focused.
• Resilient, calm under pressure, and committed to reflective practice.
• Strong team player with a positive and proactive attitude.
