Job overview

We are delighted to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for a proactive, self-motivated Clinical Support Worker to develop their clinical skills and assist in providing first class patient care.

You must be enthusiastic and passionate about delivering high standards of patient centred care and be a professional role model; ensuring patients receive a positive experience in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team.

It is essential that you are flexible and have a good understanding of the challenges and skills required to support patients, families, carers and staff. You must also demonstrate excellent organisational skills. You must be forward thinking and be open to developing and progressing new ideas and innovative ways of working.

The SROMC opened in March 2014 and provides integrated day case SACT (chemotherapy), out-patient clinics and access to Health & Wellbeing facilities. The health and wellbeing area incorporates our Macmillan Patient Information Manager and a Macmillan Welfare and Benefits Adviser.

This provides excellent opportunities to develop services to support patients through treatment, with education programmes, complementary therapies, and support through their treatment and onwards to recovery and survivorship.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive environment. We would really encourage informal visits to SROMC.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Support worker you will have a range of duties including: performing basic observations, assisting patients attending for treatment with essential aspects of care and supporting outpatient clinics.

In addition you will undertake more complex duties including phlebotomy, accessing PICC, Hickman lines and Port-a-Caths, performing cannulation, phlebotomy, ECG's, bladder scanning, swabbing and basic dressings. You will ensure the unit is of the highest state of cleanliness, tidiness, always prepared and well-presented ready for patients.

You must be able to take instruction from a range of staff with attention to detail and be an excellent team player / supportive colleague as well as acting on your own initiative.

We are committed to delivering excellence in our cancer services, which is achieved through continually listening to our patients and our staff. Professional development is integral to this and we encourage involvement and engagement in the continual development, expansion and improvement of our services and practice.
