An exciting and unique opportunity to work alongside adults, social workers and children in care in a variety of ways! Do you have skills in working across systems, in considering models of developmental trauma, attachment and therapeutic parenting?

We are looking for 2 passionate individuals who love to work systemically and reflectively with adults who care for children in Suffolk residential homes.

We are splitting a full time 8A post into two part-time opportunities as follows:

Post 1: 8A Clinical Psychologist 18.75 hours per week (0.5 WTE) -must include Tuesday. Covering Waveney and North Suffolk.

Post 2: 8A Clinical Psychologist 18.75 hours per week (0.5 WTE) -must include Tuesday. Covering East to West Central Suffolk a full-time position across the region is also possible

You will be supported by the CONNECT team within NSFT & Principal Clinical Psychologist Dr Jessica Austin. She works across NSFT & SCC, has extensive experience in this complex clinical area and can support your development and strategic direction.
The Norfolk LAAC team are involved and supportive of this service. It is an exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding network and to offer a highly valued contribution to the system. These posts are appreciated and respected by the Children’s Home service and do not involve direct therapeutic work with children, it is the adults / staff around them who are the focus.

Main duties of the job

Supporting Suffolk’s Children’s Homes: The work within Suffolk County Council’s Children’s Homes will involve a focus on embedding a trauma and psychologically informed culture in the homes across Suffolk. The success of the pilot in 2021 has contributed to a permanent funding agreement for the Clinical Psychology role and the continued passion and support from colleagues in the homes and SCC for the post.

The role involves an exciting opportunity to embed a trauma and psychologically informed culture across multi-layers of the system such as facilitating reflective practice groups, training and formulation sessions for staff and working with the management team to review and embed practice developments such as the assessment, formulation and support of young people’s behavioural, emotional, safety and relational needs.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology accredited by BPS
  • Registered as a Practitioner psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
  • Additional therapeutic qualification, training or experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of mental health practice with children, young people and families
  • Experience of continuing professional development
  • Experience of multi disciplinary working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with care experienced children and young people
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk with children and young people
  • Experience of working with social care systems

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • knowledge of attachment, child development, developmental trauma and systemic practice
  • Awareness of safeguarding principles
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of methods of evaluating impact of work on staff teams
