An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic Finance team at Harrogate and District NHS FT for a Deputy Financial Controller.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record and extensive experience in NHS or equivalent experience in a large organisation with complex workforce systems with the ability to work flexibly under pressure to achieve the objectives of the post.

Strong communication, IT, numeracy, management and interpersonal skills are essential as you will be working closely with various stakeholders and stakeholder engagement is key to the role.

We are Level 1 accredited One NHS Finance employer, working towards level 2.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the Trust’s Financial Accounts and Payments Department, adopting a professional, modern, proactive and dynamic approach to ensure an efficient financial accounts service is provided. Supporting the Financial Controller in the delivery of financial accounting and controls, statutory reporting, technical accounting expertise, capital accounting, payment of suppliers, collection of income, cash management, charitable funds and staff development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Equivalent experience to degree level NVQ level 5 or Professional accountancy qualifications – Certificate Level or Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Member (or nearing completion of membership)
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified with a recognised accountancy body (CCAB / CIMA)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of working in a large organisation with complex management structures
  • • Experience in leading a team.
  • • Experience of working with internal and external auditors.
  • • Recent / relevant Financial accounts and/or Payments experience
  • • Knowledge and understanding of consolidation and group accounting
Desirable criteria
  • • Significant financial accounts experience in the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Good working knowledge of financial and accounting standard and procedures.
  • • High level of knowledge of the Oracle system
Desirable criteria
  • • Knowledge of the NHS Finance Regime. Understanding of the NHS, its infrastructure and partner healthcare organisations. Understanding of the wider NHS management and modernisation agenda.
  • • Able to deal with performance, feedback, coaching, training and counselling issues relating to staff.
