Job Purpose:
Saab UK are looking for an energetic and motivated team player to join their team supporting the British Army in Tilshead, Wiltshire as a Site Technician.This Saab facility provides the technical and logistical support to a wide range of laser-based training equipment (DFWES) used by The British Army. Although predominantly based in the workshop and warehouse facility in Westdown Camp, Tilshead, the job offers the opportunity of some travel to support other Saab sites and British Army exercises.
Our team in Westdown Camp currently stands at 12 employees.
We are responsible for maintaining, issuing and receipting the British Army's DFWES simulation equipment.
As part of the team you will learn, through on the job training, to fit our equipment to British Army Vehicles and fault find to ensure the system is working correctly.
There is an element of travel involved sometimes, as we support the Army on exercises everywhere they use the equipment.
Occasionally the opportunity arises to work with other NATO partners who use the same simulation equipment.
We typically a 40 hour week, from 0800- 1630 weekdays. We do not work shifts but, when we support exercises, we may have to work extended hours and occasionally weekends.
Outside of exercise periods we maintain the equipment. This is also on the job training with an element of training in Sweden.
Job responsibilities include:
- Assist in planning and preparation of training equipment (packing, system configuration, testing).
- Assist in the issue and receipt of equipment.
- Fitting of the equipment to the vehicle platforms.
- Technical trouble shooting on the equipment fitted to the vehicle platforms.
- Corrective and preventative maintenance.
- Electrical and mechanical repairs.
- Stocktaking
- Instructing on equipment use.
- Requirement for occasional extended working hours (including some weekend work).
- Willing to take on secondary roles on a temporary basis
- Undertake courses such as off road driver training, CONDO and first aid.
Skills and experience required
Essential:
- Good communication skills with the ability to interact with military and civilian staff.
- Full UK driving license.
- Computer literacy with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Math's and English academic qualifications (GCSE A-C grade or equivalent).
- Willingness to work in a military Environment.
- Fitness to be able to mount and dismount vehicle platforms and work safely on top of them.
Desirable:
- Forklift operating license.
- Soldering certificate. J-STD and 610
- Qualified to drive with a trailer.
- Experience of instructing.
