Business Manager – Role Overview
The Regional Valuation Unit (RVU) is responsible for rateable value and valuing property for tax purposes. RVU also supports Non-Domestic Rating activity and provides technical advice to other work streams in the Valuation Office Agency.
The Business Manager provides support to the management team within the business unit, with delegated assurance and financial management responsibilities that ensure the unit meets operational priorities and other Agency objectives.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to enhance their skills and expertise in key areas such as finance, resource and performance management, and risk and assurance, while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic environment.
Business Manager – Key responsibilities
The role-holder is expected to support the management team with particular focus upon the below main functions:
- Working with the Unit Head and other Senior Management Team (SMT) members, to actively monitor resourcing and workflow.
- Ensure a consistent approach is taken across the Unit in complying with all Agency policies and processes, ensuring that these are successfully embedded within individual teams, and addressing any local issues.
- Financial management of the Unit budget (and of any centralised budgets); rigorously controlling expenditure and demonstrating value for money.
- Risk Management responsibility; monitoring the Unit risk register, ensuring this is maintained to an acceptable standard, that appropriate escalations are made at an early stage and that risk mitigation's are completed by the relevant action owner.
- Providing a Unit wide overview of performance, and of issues impacting operational delivery. This includes synthesising a variety of information, including their own local knowledge/local intelligence, to provide an informed view of both current and forecast performance.
- To oversee assurance and financial management through line management of a small team of EO Unit Leads.
Whilst the role is broadly the same for all Business Streams, “how” it is undertaken will vary, reflecting differences in the underlying organisational structures and priorities of the respective Unit.
The successful candidate will be expected to attend the office to support their team members in person, following the VOA hybrid working policy.
