Clinical Fellow in A&E

The Clinical Fellows are involved in the initial diagnosis and management of all patients attending the department. The Clinical Fellow will rapidly gain valuable experience in managing medical and surgical emergencies, trauma and minor injuries.
Resuscitation of the acutely ill or injured are taught on a regular basis and there will be many opportunities to develop these skills. Senior medical support is always available and their involvement is encouraged especially during the Clinical Fellows first month of tenure.
Admission of observation patients under the A&E consultants - The A&E Clinical Fellow should follow up these patients and co-ordinate their discharge under the direct supervision of senior A&E staff. Membership of the hospitals trauma team to treat major trauma cases Supervision and teaching of medical students is an enjoyable part of the Clinical Fellows responsibility although formal tutorials are organised by the specialist registrar and consultants.
The preparation of police reports is a useful skill to learn during the Clinical Fellows tenure. The preparation and remuneration is co-ordinated by the Consultants secretary. All patients who are discharged should receive a GP letter summarising their diagnosis and management.

Duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the consultant or specialist registrar. Such additional commitments arising would be exceptional and short-lived. NOTE: Specific duties may vary from time to time to ensure that specific, departmental competencies are achieved and personal interests are developed.
