We have two band 5 to 6 developmental Occupational Therapy posts available within the Community Mental Health Service in Telford and Wrekin. One full time and one part time 15 hours. Please specify on your application which post you are interested in applying for.
You will be responsible for the occupational therapy assessment of care needs and contributing to the formulation of the person’s needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the person’s negotiated goals and relevant evidence-based interventions.You will, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, provide occupational therapy interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/ or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway.
Main duties of the job- You will take responsibility for the management of a caseload which will increase in complexity as you develop. This includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with service user and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans (Eligible for care and Patient Knows Best).
- You will be responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
- You will assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
- You will deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions following specific occupational therapy assessments to enable understanding of any expression of an unmet need and to maximise an individual’s abilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- You will be responsible for the promotion of carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision.
- You will be responsible for participation in the Trust appraisal process, identifying own/others mandatory professional, supervisory, personal development and training needs and in supporting the provision of induction, mentorship, appraisal and clinical supervision to colleagues as appropriate.
- You will teach students by both practical and theoretical instruction. Allow experiential learning to take place following discussion with the Occupational Therapy Lead and Senior Occupational Therapist, as to individual learner’s stage of development.
- You will be responsible for the effective utilisation of clinical/financial resources to ensure adequate clinical care is provided with a requirement that all incidents, which may compromise care, are reported immediately to a senior manager, and clinicians involved in their care as appropriate.
- You will be responsible for accessing and participating in clinical, managerial and caseload supervision.
- You will keep abreast of current trends in mental health care and of Occupational Therapy developments.
- You will be responsible for understanding and meeting own professional responsibilities under Child Protection legislation and Adult Safeguarding policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria- Dip COT or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Health And Care Professions Council Registered Occupational Therapist
- Leadership qualification
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of formulating assessments, planning, co-ordinating and supporting adults experiencing difficulties
- Experience of working with mental health conditions
- Experience of working in community setting and making decisions autonomously
- Experience of working in amental health setting
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Essential criteria- Knowledge and experience of occupational therapy models, interventions, specialist assessments and outcome measures
- Range of Interpersonal skills, (communication, listening, working collaboratively) maintaining good working relationships with service users/carers, other service providers and agencies
- Range of specialist assessments and interventions to support occupational performance (e.g. ALLENS, Sensory Assessment/Sensory Integration, VdT MOCA, MOHOST, TFL’s, OT Ax)
- Knowledge of the wide range of statutory independent and third sector service provision for adults with mental ill health
