NWLP is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ structure; the majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is centralised at our hub site at Charing Cross Hospital. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed in 24/7 Essential Service Laboratories based on-site within the seven hospital sites in the group.

What We Need from You?- Suitable candidates must be HCPC registered and possess an MSc or higher specialist in an appropriate discipline, or relevant experience
- A solid histology background, embedding, microtomy, Immunocytochemistry, special staining, and quality control.
- Experience in Immunocytochemistry is a huge plus.

Main duties of the job
The individual will be a key member of the Cellular Pathology management team assisting in the day-to-day operational delivery of the Cellular Pathology service, working closely with the Cellular Pathology Laboratory Managers and Consultant Histopathologists.
KEY TASK:
- The day-to-day management of a section within the laboratory under the direction of a Laboratory Manager.
- Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
- To develop and improve professional expertise and specialist skills.
- To possess the skills required to provide the necessary training and supervision of staff within the section.
- To provide and co-ordinate specialist clinical technical and scientific services to patients that may include research and audit.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria- HCPC Registration.
- MSc, FIBMS or equivalent in relevant discipline
- Demonstrable extensive relevant experience post HCPC registration in Cellular Pathology
- Management training
Experience
Essential criteria- Knowledge of all aspects of specialist subject
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Use of Pathology computer systems
- Previous experience in a large busy pathology laboratory
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria- Practical analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work
- Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet and database software
- Prepared to work with biological materials.
- Ability to show flexibility by performing multiple tasks
- Quick to learn and comprehend.
