An opportunity has arisen to join the team of nursing staff at Mill Lodge. This is a 12 month fixed term contract for maternity cover. Mill Lodge is a Norwich based 5 bedded learning disabilities nursing respite unit providing specialist, high quality, person centred care for adults (18+) with a learning disability, multiple physical disabilities & additional complex healthcare needs.

The post holder must be a highly motivated, innovative & flexible Band 3 Healthcare Assistant wishing to work as part of the team to ensure the patient experience is delivered in a safe, efficient and evidence-based manner. The post holder must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal & non-verbal, good problem-solving skills & a passion for working with people with multiple clinical needs.

This is a shift based post on a 24 hour rotation.

The post holder will provide support to the Band 5 Nurses and the whole team to ensure every aspect on the individual and families experience is delivered in a safe, efficient and evidence based manner.

The post holder will also be required to assist with cooking. Shopping and cleaning where necessary within the unit.

To fulfil the associate worker role in assisting the named nurse to co-ordinate patents package of care whilst admitted to the unit.

Carry out clinical procedures as required following competency training.

Input into the writing and delivery of individuals specific are plans, highlighting any issues at the earliest opportunity

Carry out assigned tasks in delivering and supporting direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse to ensure delivery of patient care, at times without direct supervision.

To assist patients with activities of daily living whilst encouraging independence.

To monitor and record patient’s clinical observations, as required.

To assist with patient nutritional requirements according to the individual needs, including artificial feeding and assisting individuals with significant dysphagia issues.

To assist in the maintenance of up to date, comprehensive and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements.

To assist in the admission and discharge of patients.

Report observed changes in the patient’s physical/psychological needs and participate in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to ensure effective communication.

Support individuals to access community facilities, at times without direct supervision according to individual need.

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records in accordance with NCH&C policy.

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Involvement as required in the risk assessment and review process.

Co-operate and maintain good relationships with other disciplines to maximise patient care provision.

Maintain good relationships and an empathetic approach to patients, carers and relatives.

Have a clear understanding of CQC outcomes and assist in ensuring these are achieved.

Take responsibility for maintenance of up-to-date practice by attendance and active participation at staff meetings, supervision sessions and attending/completing all mandatory training.

Be involved in the induction of new staff and students

Assist with data collection and audit as required

Maintain a flexible approach to the role to meet the needs of the service
