This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Equivalent to ST4+ trainee / registrar).

This is a permanent part time (80%) post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care.

The successful candidate will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of application.

Applicants must have at least 2 years UK experience of working on a Tier 2 rota.

MRCOG desirable

The successful candidate will join a team of 20 Consultants within the directorate who currently provide services for General Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Feto-maternal Medicine, Urogynaecology, Menstrual disorders, Menopause, Subfertility, Outpatient hysteroscopy, Colposcopy and Gynaecological Oncology.

The directorate is supported by 8 SAS Doctors (2 Associate specialists and 6 Specialty doctor), 6 Specialty Trainees ST3+ and 13 Junior Doctors (4 O&G ST 1&2, 6 GPSTs and 3 F2)

It would be expected that any successful candidate would take an active role in the service provision of the Department. In addition they would be expected to actively participate in education and audit and the trust have a well-established audit unit to support this.

The exact timetable will vary depending on the individual doctor’s skills and training requirements. The core sessions of Antenatal clinic, Gynaecology clinic, Labour Ward and Theatre will form the basis of the rota with additional service and educational session

The post holder will be supported by, and work in conjunction with, the Consultants in O&G, working alongside the other second on call doctors, junior medical team and nursing & midwifery colleagues. There is on-call commitment on the second on call rota, so a minimum of 3 years O&G experience is required and a minimum of 12 months clinical experience including independent On Call activity in the UK.

Acute Care

Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.

Community Services

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
