  • Support the child in participating in Pre-School routines, helping him engage in social and educational activities.
  • Develop and implement activities that promote the child’s social and communication skills.
  • Use Makaton and PECS to support communication, tailoring approaches to the child’s specific needs.
  • Track and document the child’s progress through regular observations, in line with the EYFS Framework, specifically following the curriculum “Development Matters”.
  • Work closely with parents, the Pre-School’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-Ordinator (SENDCo) and other professionals involved in the child’s care, implementing their recommendations to enhance his development and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with Pre-School staff to create an inclusive learning environment for the child and other students
  • Assist in the general operation of the Pre-School when the child is absent, supporting colleagues with daily tasks.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum Level 3 in Early Years or other relevant field is desirable.
  • Experience working with children with Autism and Pica is desirable.
  • Proficiency in using Makaton and PECS is essential.
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework
  • Understanding of safeguarding and health safety practices in Early Years settings.
Skills and Attributes
  • Compassionate and patient, with a genuine interest in supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively alongside parents, SENDCo and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Proactive, with the ability to develop engaging activities and respond to the child’s individual needs.
  • High attention to detail, particularly in observing and documenting the child’s progress.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with a willingness to support the wider Pre-School team as required.
