Job overview

To contribute to the provision in Pharmacy Distribution and work to ensure an efficient and safe service is maintained to the wards and clinics contributing to patient care. To provide an efficient medicines top up and supply service to wards and clinics ensuring medicines are always available for the patients.

To maintain relationships with wards and deal with queries when necessary. To support the stock management processes with the introduction of the new upgraded pharmacy robot. To ensure that key performance indicators are achieved.

Main duties of the job

Distribution
  • To support the daily ward top up service providing stock medicines to all wards clinics and off site clinics ensuring medicines are always available for the patients.
  • To process ward and clinics orders manually or via the robot as needed.
  • Ensure all to-follows are processed in a timely way and any stock issues are communicated to the pharmacy buying office and ward pharmacists as required to ensure the patients do not go without the medicines required
  • Ensure all blist orders and ad hoc stock requests are processed efficiently, safely, and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the appropriate storage of pharmaceutical goods in the appropriate areas of the pharmacy and in line with the departments defined stock management standards.
  • To Ensure medicines are picked and supplied correctly to the wards and clinics.
  • To support loading of stock into the pharmacy robot and pro-log.

  • To work harmoniously with the direct team and wider team to achieve the objectives of the service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with all co-workers, peers and managers.
  • To work constructively with all team members and to actively support each other to cover the workload of the service.

Roles and responsibilities

General
  • To undertake training in line with defined objectives.
  • Undertake relevant NVQ2 in Pharmacy Service unit/s as required in line with GPhC requirements.
  • Participate in robot loading rotas (including late duties).
  • To keep up to date with and follow relevant departmental procedures.
  • To keep up to date with mandatory training.
  • Participate in the training of new staff.
  • Support the Goods Receipt team as required.
  • To attend and participate when needed in departmental meetings.
Distribution

  • To process ward and clinics orders manually or via the robot as needed.
  • Ensure all to-follows are processed in a timely way and any stock issues are communicated to the pharmacy buying office and ward pharmacists as required.
  • Ensure all blist orders and ad hoc stock requests are processed efficiently, safely, and in a timely manner.
  • Support the implementation of any remedial actions in order to ensure key performance indicators are achieved.
  • Maintain the appropriate storage of pharmaceutical goods in the appropriate areas of the pharmacy and in line with the departments defined stock management standards.
  • Support the maintenance, cleanliness and tidiness within the distribution area in pharmacy, such as filing.
  • Support the implementation of pharmacy initiatives and projects such as the ward box pilot and Baxter inventory service and any other initiatives.
  • To participate in the returning of medicines to pharmacy from wards. To ensure all returns to stock, or stock disposal, are processed in a timely manner.
  • To complete a medicines picking accreditation of 1000 items.
  • To ensure medicines are picked and supplied correctly to the wards and clinics.
  • To support loading of stock into the pharmacy robot and pro-log.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English GCSE at Grade C or above or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Sceince GCSE at Grade C or above or equivalent

  • Perform Basic Mathematical calculations in relation to work

  • Correctly review expiry dates and identify products that have expired
  • Ability to correctly select medicines against orders, matching medicine names, strengths, formulation and pack size
