This role will work in the acute in-patient Tobacco Treatment Service providing a dual role of Senior Tobacco advisor and Health Educator. As a senior member of the team the post-holder will provide day-to-day support to the Tobacco advisors who have direct patient-facing roles to provide inpatients with behavioural support and treatment options in relation to tobacco use.

In addition, the role will focus on the training and education of departments around the inpatient treatment model: Ask, Advise, Actproviding ‘safe, personal and effective’ care to all identified Tobacco users. It is expected that the post holder whilst providing a level of leadership will also contribute to day-to-day service delivery as required.

  1. Working with the Service Manager and team colleagues, support the establishment of the Trust's Tobacco Dependency Treatment Services.
  2. Support and attend the Trust's Tobacco Dependency Steering Group, local Tobacco Control Groups and ICS Tobacco Dependency Communities of Practice, including Task & Finish Groups and workshops.
  3. Contribute to the development of tobacco harm reduction related care pathways, clinical guidelines, protocols and procedures. Including, as needed, adaptations to patient documentation, template care plans and the electronic patient record templates.
  4. Be responsible for Assisting in raising awareness in both clinical and non-clinical areas around a smokefree culture and to help implement the Trust wide Smokefree policy.
  5. Establish the maintain links with other organisations providing support and resources for the Trust’s Tobacco Dependency Treatment Services e.g., local authority tobacco leads, community-based smoking cessation services, other Trusts across the Lancashire & South Cumbria regional Integrated Care System (ICS).
  6. Be responsible for the development, delivery and co-ordination of training around Tobacco use including interventions and treatment throughout the organisation, ensuring that training is aligned with other Tobacco services across the ICS for collaborative working.

  1. Experience of the development and delivery of training to a range of groups.
  2. Experience in delivering evidence based psychosocial interventions in line withhealth behaviour change models.
  3. Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
  4. Experience of providing guidance and support to junior members of a team and delegation skills.
  5. Knowledge around Tobacco, other substance use, addiction and related harms and health complexities.
  6. Experience of the delivery of advice on the use of NRT therapies to patients and clinicians in line with local protocols.
  7. Plan and deliver creative awareness raising events around Tobacco cessation in line with national smoking campaigns.
  8. Maintain accurate data records in respect of training for service key performance indicators.
  9. Be accountable for the provision of support to the Tobacco advisors in the team on an individual basis and through group supervision.
  10. Proactively target potential referrals of Acute inpatients who use Tobacco to ensure they are offered the best care, support and evidence-based treatments
  11. Conduct assessments with inpatients around Tobacco risk, advising on appropriate tobacco dependency treatment options and pathways.
  12. Attend training relevant to the post to achieve competence.139. Excellent IT skills, including typing, data input, presentation design and delivery using Powerpoint and other mediums.
  13. Responsibility for collating data around training on Tobacco for the organisation, interfacing with appropriate departments such as business intelligence and Learning and Development.
  14. Support those who use Tobacco through onward referral to access community Tobacco treatment and pharmacy services and pharmacy smoking cessation pathways ensure smooth transition and follow up post discharge
  15. Provide support to individuals to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing and support them in initiating and sustaining appropriate behavioural changes to improve their health.
  16. Be accountable for quality control around Tobacco screening audits as per smoke-free policy supported by the data/administrator.
  17. Support the delivery of the service key performance and reporting indicators for tobacco dependency, recording and reporting activities and results contributing to achieving all performance indicators, essential standards and quality outcomes.
  18. Engage in partnership meetings with key stakeholders supported by the Alcohol and Tobacco services manager.
  19. Support the Team administrator with data quality control, escalating any issues.
COMMUNICATION
  1. Excellent communication skills engaging effectively with a range of patients, professionals, partnership organisations.
  2. Excellent written and oral presentation skills when providing one to one and group training.
  3. Be able to plan, develop and communicate a programme of Tobacco awareness events and smoke-free initiatives.
  4. Work in partnership with Occupational Health department to deliver on the above initiatives.
  5. Work collaboratively with partnership agencies and commissioners to assist with the development of the team.
  6. Record accurate patient notes as per record keeping guidelines.
GOVERNANCE
  1. Identify and report safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately.
  2. report any incidents and near misses in line with Trust policy.
  3. Escalate any risks and concerns appropriately to the Alcohol and Tobacco services manager.
  4. Be able to communicate with patients the reason for data collection and understand one’s own responsibility under GDPR and the data Protection Act (1998).
