This means you will start on Band 7 and transition to 8a after 12-months depending on your development. The post is also available as an 8a for those with relevant post-qualification experience.

Each team has a clinical and assistant psychologist. This post is linked with the North EIP team, which is based in Finch Road Primary Care Centre, Lozells, Birmingham and provides support for young people and their carer’s who live the North of Birmingham including Alum Road, Stockland Green, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, and Four Oaks.

Main duties of the job

If you have already been working as a qualified psychologist this could be an opportunity for to you consolidate your specialist interest in psychosis and Early Intervention Psychosis. If you are newly qualified you can enter your first post in a service offering a range of clinical, research, consultation, training, and teaching opportunities.

Forward Thinking Birmingham actively support the Birmingham and Coventry DClinPsych courses, providing specialist and core placements, teaching and research supervision.

Qualifications/Skills

• Qualified Clinical Psychologist eligible for chartered status. Skills in meeting the needs of children with psychological difficulties.

• Chartered Clinical Psychologist
• Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.

Special Knowledge/Abilities and/or Job Experience

• Knowledge and experience of working with young people with psychosis and their carer’s families
• Knowledge of Early Intervention Psychosis Services
• Knowledge and experience of providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp)
• Knowledge and experience of providing Family Interventions for Psychosis including Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT)
• Knowledge of the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP)
• Knowledge and experience with supporting EIP services in coordinating the provision of formulation clinical care
• Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment within context of EIP MDT.
• Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
• Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration including use of remote video methods.
• Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effctively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, careres and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
• Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
• Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
• Ability to identify provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.
• Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

• Experience of working in EIP and/or with psychosis
• Experience of teaching, training, staff support, research
• Some experience of supervision others including Trainee Psychologists
• Experience of contributing to planning and evaluation of services
• Experience of supporting recovery focused EIP care at a clinical and service level
• Experience of neuropsychological assessment
• Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
• Experience of assessing and treating clients across the full range of care settings.
• Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
• Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
