Applications are invited for the post of Nursing Assistant within the Paediatric Learning Disabilities Service in Bolton providing specialist interventions to children and young people who have a Learning Disability, their families and carers.
We are looking for enthusiastic and confident applicants who show a commitment to the delivery of high quality services in a variety of community settings, with individuals, carers and families. They will be able to work with children and young people directly, give advice and guidance to families, carers and other professionals following best practice and deliver group sessions.The service works to promote the health and wellbeing of the children and young people that are referred to the service, developing opportunities to meet identified health outcomes in order for the children and young people to be included in all aspects of their school and family life.
You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills and work across wider Children's Services as needed. You will be involved in enabling Parents, Carers, Education, Local Authority and other health professionals. You will be able to work in collaboration with health, education and social care and work to support early help for families.
Successful applicants will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure, be a car user with access to own car with business insurance.
Main duties of the job
The Nursing Assistant will work as part of the Paediatric Learning Disability Service, working under the supervision and guidance of the Registered Nurses.
The role involves supporting the delivery of high quality patient care and interventions within various settings to children and young people who have a learning disability, their parents, carers and other professionals, clerical duties and supporting the effective delivery of the service.
The Nursing assistant is a member of the multidisciplinary team
Applicants are required to have experience of working with children and young people who have a Learning Disability.
It is desirable that candidates can demonstrate or are willing to develop skills and knowledge in positive behaviour support, sleep, continence, diet and nutrition and puberty and growing up issues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Managing patient care/clinical responsibilities- To support registered nurses with their case work, working with children, young people who have a learning disability and their families.
- Be responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards service users, carers, colleagues and other agencies, at all times.
- Work alongside the senior nursing team to achieve the strategic aims of the service and the organisation.
- To continually review own work load and manage own time within set parameters.
- To work directly with children and young people who have a learning disability on a 1:1 or group sessions as delegated.
- To support the planning, preparation and delivery of group work.
- To carry out home and other community visits as a lone worker as directed by the registered nurse and following the individuals care plan.
- Maintain regular liaison with the Registered Nurse for each child/young person, communicating all relevant issues regarding their progress.
- Communicate verbally in a sensitive, appropriate and caring manner with children/young people and their parents/carers including situations where patients/clients may be distressed, including awareness of the need to alert the appropriate Registered Nurse of safeguarding risks.
- To work in co-operation with all other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the child/young person.
- Liaise and co-operate effectively with the administrative staff in order to maintain effective service delivery.
- To carry out administration tasks relating to case work and groups as directed by a nurse.
- To document all visits, contacts and information clearly in the health records as per documentation policy.
- Accurately file all patient documentation as directed.
- To maintain the environment of the base, ensuring good standards of cleanliness/hygiene are maintained as per health and safety policy
- Be responsible for ensuring resources are maintained and fit for purpose, monitoring faults or need for ordering and report to the appropriate staff member.
- Participate in delegated clinical audit activities e.g. workload audits requested by the Senior Nurse.
- Participate in organisational Clinical Governance and Risk Management Strategy requests.
- Undertake clerical duties as directed by the Senior Nurse, e.g. data entry, telephone calls, stock control.
- Participate in annual appraisal and review. Follow an agreed plan for self-development.
- Demonstrate duties and procedures to new starters.
- Attend in service training programmes in order to meet the requirements of the post.

Essential criteria- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent
- Care certificate
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working with children and young people, their family and carers.
- To have an understanding of current issues affecting the NHS.
- Clear concise verbal and written communication to ensure effective liaison with patients and multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of working with children and young people who have learning disabilities.
- Experience of working with families in the community.
Skills
Essential criteria- Good clear communication skills at all levels.
- Able to follow written procedures accurately.
- Able to work under pressure.
