IT Systems Engineer
Location: Aberdeen (Hybrid - 3 days in the office)

About the role
We’re looking for a Systems Engineer with 1st / 2nd line experience to join our team. This is a hands-on technical role supporting multiple clients. You will focus on the day-to-day support, maintenance, and improvement of client IT systems, ensuring infrastructure remains stable, secure, and performing in line with service level agreements (SLAs).
You’ll be working across on-premises and cloud environments, supporting escalated issues from the service desk, assisting with infrastructure changes and projects, and helping to keep client systems running smoothly. This role offers exposure to a broad range of technologies, with support from senior engineers where needed.
What you’ll do- Administer and support client servers, networks, and storage solutions across diverse environments.
- Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related infrastructure services.
- Monitor system health and proactively respond to performance, capacity, and availability issues.
- Oversee and test backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Deploy, manage, and support Microsoft 365, Azure, and other cloud services.
- Monitor, investigate, and respond to security threats, vulnerabilities, and breaches.
- Provide technical support for service desk issues.
- Troubleshoot incidents across networking, servers, applications, and security layers.
- Maintain SLA compliance and deliver high-quality customer service.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and service delivery
- Stay current with emerging technologies and share knowledge within the team.
- Support a culture of quality, innovation, and customer focus.
Requirements
What we are looking for?
Essential- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role within an MSP or multi-client environment.
- Knowledge of Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory, including Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file/print services.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, including Exchange Online, Intune, and SharePoint.
- An understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, routing, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Hands-on experience with backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions (e.g., Veeam, Datto, Acronis).
- Familiarity with RMM tools such as Datto RMM, N-able, or ConnectWise.
- Experience supporting infrastructure projects such as migrations, upgrades, and deployments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- High attention to detail with strong documentation skills.
- A proactive team player with a willingness to learn and share knowledge.
- Full UK driving license (onsite client visits are required).
Desirable:
- Knowledge of firewalls and network security appliances (e.g., Sophos, Fortinet, Cisco, WatchGuard, SonicWall).
- Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Entra ID (Azure AD), or hybrid environments.
- Proficiency in virtualisation technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Familiarity with cloud cost management or optimisation tools.
- Exposure to automation frameworks or infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Experience supporting macOS or mobile device management (MDM) platforms.
- Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and standards (e.g., Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, NIST).
- Microsoft: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator.
- CompTIA: Network+, Security+, or Server+.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE).
- Vendor certifications (e.g., Fortinet, Sophos, Cisco).
- ITIL Foundation certification or experience working in ITIL-aligned environments.
