The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

Job overview
To practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist specialising in Biochemistry. The post holder will work with the other Senior BMS for the smooth running of the laboratory service. They will be jointly responsible for the day to day supervision of the technical work and staff of the Biochemistry laboratory and ensure the timely delivery of a high quality service.The post holder will have lead responsibility for specialist techniques and operational delivery within the Metabolic section of the laboratory.
Main duties of the job
To prioritise, plan and organise your own work and the work of BMS1 and trainee BMS staff within the Biochemistry department on a daily basis ensuring accurate and timely service. To provide general daily supervision ensuring staff maintain scientific and professional standards and work to departmental policies and procedures.To support the Lead Biomedical Scientist and work with the other BMS2 for the delivery of an efficient laboratory service. To liaise with consultant Clinical Scientists and Lead Biomedical Scientist for the smooth running of the laboratory service.
To perform bench work to provide the diagnostic Biochemistry service. To carry out all work to standards laid down by appropriate professional bodies including the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), Health Care Professions Council
(HCPC) United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)

Person specification
Education and Training
Essential criteria- Registered as a Biomedical Scientist with HCPC
- IBMS specialist diploma in relevant subject
- MSc or HSD in relevant subject
- Completed supervisory, management or leadership course
Experience
Essential criteria- 3 years post registration experience
- Experience of Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory
- Experience of paediatric Biochemistry
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Able to demonstrate specialist knowledge in Metabolic Biochemistry
- Able to troubleshoot analytical and technical problems
