Pastoral Support Worker – Secondary School (Wellbeing & Safeguarding Focus)

Location: Manchester
Pay: £89 - £100 per day
Contract: Full-time, term-time only (Monday–Friday)

Start Date: ASAP or September 2025

About the Role:

We are recruiting on behalf of a group of secondary schools looking for passionate and caring Pastoral Support Workers to join their student welfare teams. This role focuses on the personal development and emotional wellbeing of pupils across KS3 and KS4, particularly those at risk of disengagement, poor attendance, or family breakdown.

You will act as a key contact for vulnerable pupils, build trusted relationships, and provide targeted early help support within a school-based setting. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that all students feel safe, included, and heard.

Day-to-Day Duties:

  • Build consistent relationships with identified pupils to improve self-esteem, attendance and school engagement
  • Monitor and report on pupil welfare concerns, attendance patterns, and family challenges
  • Liaise with external agencies including Early Help, CAMHS, and social services when required
  • Provide daily check-ins, mentoring, and coaching sessions
  • Support delivery of behaviour and mental health interventions
  • Attend multi-agency and safeguarding meetings, supporting referrals and follow-ups
  • Support school-led parenting and family engagement strategies

You Will Need:

  • Experience working in a school, care, mental health or family support setting
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding policies and pastoral responsibilities in schools
  • Emotional intelligence and the ability to handle sensitive or complex situations
  • An understanding of the social and emotional issues faced by young people today
  • Level 2 or 3 qualifications in social care, youth work, mental health or education (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills with students, staff, families and professionals

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
