North Cumbria Integrated Trust is looking to employ a Trust Registrar into the Vascular department.

Successful candidate will join the existing team of vascular surgeons, doctors, and nurse specialists who provide high quality vascular services across the Northern Lake district in Cumbria and provide an excellent working and living environment.

Vascular investigations are supported by a vascular ultrasound scientist, CT and MRI services. There is a fully equipped angiography suite and vascular theatre with mobile imaging facilities. The department works closely with 2 vascular interventional radiology (IR) specialists who have 5 vascular IR sessions weekly and 2 clinical vascular scientist who work on the vascular studies laboratory.

There are regular weekly MDT meetings on site. The Vascular department has close working ties with the Tertiary unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle including weekly MDTs via video conferencing and twice yearly clinical conferences.

The trust doctors will have a named educational supervisor and training plans will be tailored to individual personal development needs. IT and library resources are available for trainees and support is available from GMC recognized trainers.

Regular weekly departmental educational and clinical governance sessions take place and active participation in audit is expected.

In the course of his/her work the jobholder liaises with nursing, professional and technical, social work and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will have responsibilities for the day-to-day care of all patients under the Consultants and will have elective and emergency responsibilities in vascular surgery. They will attend vascular out-patient clinics and operating theatres at CIC and WCH.
The candidate will also undertake in-patient ward rounds, weekly vascular local/ regional MDT and Vascular Teaching meetings and clinical governance meetings. The doctors will undertake on call on call on a 1 in 6 rota which will comprise 08:00-17:00 resident on call and 17:00-08:00 non-resident on call for vascular surgery.

Doctors will provide prospective cover for colleagues on approved annual and study leave.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS MB ChB or equivalent registerable qualification
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • MRCS
  • Experience in managing vascular surgical patients and assisting in vascular surgery
Desirable criteria
  • FRCS or EBVS
  • Experience from a vascular training programme (UK or overseas)

Skills and Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and delegate responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain accurate and legible records
  • Understanding of NHS an Entity in relation to healthcare delivery
  • Demonstrate teaching experience
  • Ability to motivate and support multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to communicate and relate well with other members of staff and patients
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of changes in NHS organisation (purchaser, provider and community care)
  • Experience of teaching medical students

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Prior clinical experience in vascular surgery
  • Able to demonstrate appropriate logbook experience in Vascular Surgery
  • Postgraduate surgical experience

  • Able to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of evidence based medicine
  • Demonstrate improvement in care from Audit
