Yarrells School and Nursery is looking for a detail-oriented and organised Finance Assistant to join our school’s administrative team. The successful candidate will support the Finance Manager in managing the school’s financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly reporting and Early Years funding.This role provides scope for achieving relevant qualifications and is open to applications from apprentices.
You will have a positive attitude, an ability to work on your own and as part of a team, and a willingness to be an active part of a busy prep school environment.
Strong communication, ICT and literacy skills are a must.

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management:
- Prepare and process monthly payroll for all staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Maintain payroll records and address any payroll-related queries promptly.
Accounts Receivable:
- Monitor and manage tuition fee payments and other income streams.
- Issue invoices and follow up on outstanding payments to ensure timely collection.
- Reconcile accounts receivable records regularly.
Accounts Payable:
- Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments in line with the school’s financial policies.
- Verify invoices against purchase orders and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate records of all payments and expenditures.
Monthly Reporting:
- Assist in producing detailed monthly financial reports for review by the Finance Manager.
- Support in preparing budget variance analyses and forecasting reports as required.
Early Years Funding:
- Prepare and process Early Years funding applications for all eligible customers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Experience in payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.
- Strong proficiency in financial software, including Xero and Dext, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A collaborative approach to working within a team environment.
- Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
- A recognised qualification in finance, accounting or a related field (or working towards one).

Start Date: late March 2025Contract: permanent, all year round
Hours: part time, Monday to Friday, guideline 25-30 hours per week with flexibility
Salary: £15,873-£20,000 per annum (FTE: £25,397-£32,000 per annum) dependent on experience
