Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst (R&D)
We are currently looking for a Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst to be based in London on a full-time basis, reporting into the Group Head of Exposure Management.
We are seeking an experienced Catastrophe Modelling Analyst looking to take the next step in their career to join our team at Munich Re. As a Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst you will play a crucial role in assessing and quantifying natural and non-natural catastrophe risks across a broad range of specialty classes.The role intends to be the first position towards an internal research and development function within Exposure Management. This function will cover topics such as climate change research, model validation, claims back-testing and calibration, tool development, scenario design & deployment, emerging risks, portfolio optimisation and event response.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing these modelling practices under the leadership of the Catastrophe Risk Manager to enhance our corporate understanding of these risks and contribute to thought leadership in the field.
Responsibilities:
- To support the Catastrophe Risk Manager leading tailored project work across our specialty classes of business (Marine, Property, Casualty, Green Energy) in the context of natural and non-natural catastrophe.
- To provide real-time reporting and analysis of natural and non-natural disasters and supporting post-event loss estimation processes.
- To enhance current practices of data visualisation and management information through reporting and dashboard creation.
- To assist the Catastrophe Risk Manager in developing a continuous appraisal of model validation and model calibration cycles demonstrating good governance and auditable process.
- To review, develop and implement emerging modelling practices to improve model completeness and modelling gap.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data, validate models, and ensure the accuracy of catastrophe risk assessments.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and emerging risks, and provide thought leadership on best practices in catastrophe modelling.
- Lead scenario development exercises to assess the potential impact of various risk scenarios on our portfolios of business.
- Lead ad hoc project work, model validation and process design.
- Liaise and share expert knowledge with other Munich Re business units regarding Catastrophe Modelling resources and skills.
- Collaborate with underwriters and other stakeholders to provide insights and recommendations on risk selection, pricing and portfolio management.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management and external stakeholders, including reinsurers and regulators.
- To build and maintain strong relationships with divisional underwriters to assist and support new underwriting opportunities and products.
- Strong proficiency in using catastrophe modelling software, such as RMS or AIR, and statistical analysis tools (such as R or Python).
- Experience in developing and implementing emerging modelling practices, for catastrophe risk assessment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate insights effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build effective relationships with stakeholders at various levels.
