Overview:

The London Borough of Harrow has a new opportunity for a Consultant in Public Health. The Department of Public Health at Harrow Council is stable, well connected and true to the Public Health principles of working with residents, building on evidence, clear prioritisation and clear on reducing inequalities.

The post holder will take responsibility for some of the statutory and strategic objectives of the local authority and the Health & Wellbeing Board. The role will be at the forefront of driving a Commercial Determinants of Health programme, and the design of a tiered prevention model for social care.

With such ambitions the role will be expected to engage the private sector, and voluntary and community sector organisations.

Within the overall work plan of the team, the key areas of work will be dependent on the post holder’s areas of expertise and interest but it is expected that the post holder will:

  • Lead the delivery of the ‘core offer’ of public health support to Harrow CCG and the integrated care partnership
  • Lead and co-ordinate health improvement activities in the Borough of Harrow. This will include leadership of the preventative aspects of the Borough wide Health and Wellbeing strategy and leading the refresh of the JSNA and PNA.
  • Provide support to public health commissioning arrangements (including those for Health Visiting and School Nursing, sexual health services, drug and alcohol services and NHS health checks)
  • Lead on health protection and emergency planning within the team.
  • Become an established Educational Supervisor for PH Specialist Trainees

About you:

The successful applicant will have:

  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists
  • Minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
  • The ability to both lead teams and to able to contribute effectively in teams led by junior colleagues
  • Experience of delivering successful change management programmes across organizational boundaries
  • In depth understanding of the health and care system and the relationships with both local national government
