Department for Infrastructure- Northern Ireland Civil Service, 9-month contract +
Your new roleWorking as part of the Finance Business Partner
- To optimise the financial resources available to the Department in achieving its strategic goals and delivering value for money and efficiency for the taxpayer to provide accurate, timely and relevant financial analysis and information to support effective decision-making within the Department;
- To deliver the Department’s statutory external financial reporting outputs and maintain processes which deliver compliance with Government Accounting regulations and other legislative requirements; and
- Be committed to continuous improvement and to providing both proactive and responsive services which meet the needs of the Department.
- Provision of input into costing reviews and one-off costing exercises;
- Monitoring and reporting fees and charges in compliance with Managing Public Money NI, published by the Department of Finance;
- Preparation of overtime reports;
- Assist in salary forecasting;
- Monitoring and debt management activities
- Assist in production of year-end Memorandum Trading Accounts;
- Support Head of Branch and Financial Controller in ad hoc financial exercises, as required;
- Assist in cross-cutting finance initiatives, when required.
- Proficient use of Excel and pivot tables
What you'll need to succeed
Be a fully qualified accountant and a current member of one of the professional bodies detailed below:
(a) Chartered Accountants Ireland; (b) The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland; (c) The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales; (d) The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants; (e) The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants; (f) The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy; (g) The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland
Have at least 1-year relevant post qualification experience* gained working whilst a full member of the relevant body (as described above) in two or more of the following areas: financial planning and budgeting; financial accounting/auditing (including forensic accounting); management accounting and cost analysis; development/implementation of financial systems.Be advanced in using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to include Pivot tables, VLOOKUPS etc
Desirable: Previous experience working in finance within the public sector.
