Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic nurse to compliment our current team within the discharge lounge at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH).

The successful candidate will have exemplary communication skills, will be highly motivated and a dynamic qualified nurse. The discharge lounge comprises of 15 beds and 4 chair spaces and specialises in the ongoing journey of patients moving to different specialities within the organisation and those transitioning to home or community based care.

Whilst nursing experience would be an advantage full training will be provided and so this could be an opportunity for a new registrant.

We work closely with all members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to provide a full holistic approach to patient care.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to deliver a high standard of care to a range of patients from all specialities including medicine, surgery and orthopaedics and provided them with all the necessary support and information for a safe hospital transition or discharge home.

Liaison with all members of the MDT is of vital importance to ensure a safe and seamless transition for patients, which is why effective communication skills are of the utmost importance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the ward team under the direction of the Ward Manager.
  • To be responsible for the organising and co-ordination of nursing services in the ward/department in the absence of senior staff on a regular basis.
  • To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Qualifications / Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • 1st Level live NMC registered Nurse
  • Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
Desirable criteria
  • PP126/7
  • D32/33
  • Post Registration qualification in specialty
  • Diploma/degree in nursing

Experience & Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
