Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pharmacy Team at Chesterfield. Visiting our new mental health inpatient wards alongside visiting Community Mental Health Teams, Crisis Teams and Dementia Rapid Response Teams on a rotational basis.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Medicines Management Technician to participate in the pharmacy department’s safe, effective, and responsive pharmaceutical supply services to Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
We have recently moved over to our exciting new purpose built mental health facility. Three wards will be based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and one Older Adult Ward based at Walton Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Participate in supporting a high-quality medicine management service that is accurate, effective, efficient and safe to all wards.
Ensure all new Inpatient, Crisis Team and Dementia Rapid Response admissions are reconciled in line with national and local policies and medicines are ordered in a timely manner to patients within the Trust.
Work closely with Chesterfield Royal Hospital Pharmacy in line with our Service Level Agreement to support medication supplies to wards.
Provide medicines information and support to patients and carers to optimise treatment outcomes.
Ensure all pharmacy audits are completed as per schedule and governance standards are always adhered to. Ensuring all action plans are followed up.
Provide support to the dispensary at Kingsway Hospital, Derby. Completing a regular dispensing/accuracy checking session.
Independently travel between sites. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role will include:
- Regular ward and Community Mental Health team visits
- Medicine reconciliation and checking of PODs
- Completion of Discharge Medicines Service (DMS) dashboard
- Patient counselling
- Inpatient top up and stock top up
- Pharmacy governance audits
- Accuracy checking of medicines is desirable if suitably qualified or full training will be provided.
The pharmacy department promotes a culture of continuing education and development: applicants will be expected to aspire to further enhancing their own knowledge and skills.
This post will be based at Derwent Unit, Chesterfield.
You will have a BTEC Level 3 Pharmaceutical Science alongside NVQ level 3 Pharmaceutical skills qualification or equivalent.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification (NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus under pinning knowledge from BTEC)
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a qualified technician or obtaining
- Accredited Checking qualification or evidence of Hospital in house validations
Skills
Essential criteria- Demonstrate competence in using computer packages, word, excel, powerpoint, internet & email
- Shows good communication skills
- Interpersonal skills, work unsupervised/part of a team/motivated to work on own
