Job overview

An opportunity for a full-time Band 3 nurse has arisen in the Gynaecology Nursing Team working across Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and St Albans City Hospital. The post will support patients undergoing a variety of gynaecology tests, procedures and surgeries.

Your core days will be Mon-Fri doing a variety of day shifts. As part of the nursing team there will be a requirement to support other areas as required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a vital role across Gynaecology services, delivering high-quality care and support to patients undergoing a variety of tests and procedures at three clinic sites. This dynamic position is key to ensuring clinics run smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities will include monitoring patient observations, taking blood samples, collecting and dispatching specimens, and, once appropriately trained, inserting cannulas.

The role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with clinical teams, contributing directly to excellent patient experiences.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide all care to patients with gynaecology conditions and/or undergoing gynaecology procedures and surgeries under the supervision of your registered colleagues.

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate.
  • Care certificate.
  • NVQ 2 (or equivalent).
  • Willingness to expand knowledge attending relevant gynaecology courses when required.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 3 or willingness to work towards.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience working with people.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Able to always maintain service user confidentiality.
  • Ability to use specialist equipment within clinics or willingness to learn.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience as a Healthcare Assistant within an acute setting
  • Experience with TWOCs and bladder scanner.
  • Can take blood and site cannulas

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
  • Understand and respect confidential nature of care work environment / role.
  • Able to cope with sensitive nature of work.
  • Adaptability and flexibility with variable workloads.
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work as team member
  • Ability to recognise when to escalate concerns.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of EPR and other information systems with the Trust.
