Job overview
A full-time replacement (10 PA) Consultant Haematologist post is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital (SMH), Aylesbury and Wycombe Hospital (WH), High Wycombe. This is a replacement post created to maintain the department at 8 substantive consultants.The appointee will be expected to provide, along with the current consultants, a comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology service for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
The successful applicant will be expected to have broad experience in adult general and malignant haematology and be experienced in managing haematology patients in inpatient and outpatient settings, including patients on high-intensity chemotherapy.The applicant will be invited to negotiate an area of sub-specialty interest.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to provide, alongside the current consultants, a comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology service for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
Candidates are expected to be broadly trained in haematology and must hold full and specialist registration (haematology), with a licence to practise, with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by the date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Existing consultants are experienced in general and malignant haematology and currently have areas of special interest covering haemostasis and coagulation, transfusion, haemoglobinopathies and paediatric haematology and share general laboratory duties.The appointee will be invited to negotiate an area of special interest within the team as well as being experienced in general and malignant haematology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities- Clinical provision encompasses inpatient, day-case and outpatient services for both malignant and non-malignant haematological disease.
- Shared managerial responsibility on an agreed basis with colleagues.
- Provision of an out of hours ‘on call’ service with consultant colleagues.
- Participation in undergraduate/postgraduate medical/nursing/laboratory staff teaching as appropriate.
- The post-holder will engage with the requirements of NCAG with regards to the local acute oncology service
- Provision of mutual cover with consultant colleagues for periods of annual leave, sickness and study leave on an equitable basis.
- Participation in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance procedures.
- The current study leave budget is £800 per annum and it is expected that the postholder will be registered for CPD with the relevant Royal College. The postholder will be required to produce evidence of engagement with CPD as part of the appraisal and revalidation process.
- Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust will provide doctors with support to complete a regular annual appraisal and with the revalidation process.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria- Registerable medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification
- FRCPath or an equivalent qualification
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: 1) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (or a proposed CCT date be within 6 months of the interview 2) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) 3) European Community Rights
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria- Wide experience of malignant and non-malignant haematology including inpatient care

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential criteria- Able to work provide out of hours emergency cover as part of an on-call rota including nights and weekends with the ability to return to the hospital if necessary
