This is an exciting time for Bury. As one of the ten districts of Greater Manchester, Bury has a key role to play in the delivery of the economic and housing growth that is central to the Devolution Agreement for Greater Manchester.

Bury is a great place to live, work, study and visit. It has an excellent blend of both town and countryside including award winning parks and vibrant urban areas. Bury town centre, behind Manchester city centre and the Trafford Centre, is the third highest ranking retail centre within Greater Manchester.

The Borough also benefits from excellent transport links and a fast and frequent Metrolink service from Bury to Manchester city centre and beyond. In fact some of our major housing schemes are situated in these locations where we hope to being forward several sustainable housing schemes.

The Let's Do It! Strategy sets out a clear ambition and delivery plan for the next 10 years. But it is not just a strategy for service improvement, it is a radical new proposition for community power; putting relationships first and creating a borough in which every single person plays their part - including staff where we impart the Local, Enterprising, Together and Strengths values on a daily basis - essential behaviours for unlocking our brownfield housing sites.

About the roles:

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in accelerating the delivery of housing on brownfield land across the district of Bury. Our vision for housing across Bury is outlined in our Housing Strategy 2021-2025.

You will be joining a driven yet supportive team who are both experienced and friendly. Incoming candidates can expect a leadership culture which is authentic, values autonomous thought and actions, welcomes creativity and ability to independently problem solve.

After 2 years of delivering c. 1200 homes (inc. open market, specialist and affordable homes) working closely with private developers and registered providers, we are about to embark on phase 2 of our ambitious Brownfield Housing programme. This is an exciting time as we progress sites as part of a wider programme of regeneration activity (such as NORA - the former Firestation site, Humphrey House and Pyramid Park to name a few).

Implementing Places for Everyone of over 6100 homes will be a major work area and its likely applicants will flex to support a range of small to large scale housing schemes as part of bringing forward plans for 10,000 homes in Bury over the next 10 years,

Increasingly the team are supporting Children's Services to bring forward some specialist capital projects for our children and young people and care leavers, requiring a wider appreciation of housing need and complexity.

About you

An ability to work at pace and take responsibility for your own work area is a must. We are seeking post-holders comfortable navigating ambiguity - people who enjoy solving problems. Ideally we are seeking individuals with experience of leading relationships with developers, contractors and/or registered providers and some local authority experience of working with land an property, legal, procurement, finance to ensure a strategic and joined up approach to housing delivery.

The successful candidates will be experienced in delivering brownfield sites, ensuring appropriate residential development on Council owned sites and influencing and facilitating growth to meet housing need and delivery of LET's Strategy.

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week.
